Available Characters FAQ
- I have a really good idea for an original character that would help further the plot, can I make them?
Unfortunately no. This is a plot based role-play, meaning every character that is created by either Lori or I is essential to moving the plot along. However we will have an OC week where you can create as many OC characters as you'd like. The catch? Their applications will have to be finished before said week is over, but don't worry we will send out a mass pm the week before. - No offense but I don't like the face claim you have, can I change it?
Of course, you are free to choose whatever face claim your little heart desires, they are just suggestions after all. All I ask is that you keep the original Face claim's ethnicity in mind in order to avoid white washing as that is not allowed. - What if I want to use a face claim that is suggested for another canon?
As you have pointed out, these are suggested faces to use. You may discuss the use of one of the suggested face claims for another canon with an Admin. Please keep in mind, again, that the ethnicity does need to match with that of the family and so if you want to pair say Madhali Dixit with Emilia Clarke, we're going to have to refuse that. - The names you chose....can I change them as well?
Of course! But you are only allowed to change the first name. - Why can't I change the last name? They really are awful!
Because in order for the second plot to run smoothly the last names need to stay intact as they come from the original story this plot follows. - Do you have the entire characters personality/history mapped out or can I mold them into my own?
No, we did not map out the entire characters personality or history. We did, however, add one or two things so you could get a feel for who they are. We also included their jobs/majors, where they were on the night of the triple homicides, what their relationship was to the victims, if they had any, as well as any motives they could have to harm said victims. Plus one or two people they know outside of family. - Do we have to follow the bullet points that you gave us telling us who the characters are?
Yes, what is stated is canon, however everything else is up to you! If you don't like who they are as a person when taking them don't be afraid to give them some awesome character development. - The character I want was in a relationship with another character, however I don't think they are straight...can I make them Bi/Gay/Asexual?
Of course you can. We don't specifically give them a sexuality. However, just because you want them to be Bi/Gay/Asexual doesn't mean that the relationship never happened. As I stated above everything mentioned underneath the characters' is canon. However you can have fun with it and say they dated so-and-so before they came out or realized their sexuality. Or so and so knew they were Gay/Asexual and decided to 'date' them to help them out. It is your story to tell. - I want my character to be romantically linked with another one. Can I add this to the application and then wait for someone to pick up that other character?
Sorry, but the answer to this is no. Some of the other canon characters have listed romantic attachments (previous or on-going) for plot purposes/character development that shaped them into the person they currently are. We aren't going to add on romantic partners to characters and then basically force someone into a plot with another rper when they choose that particular character. It wouldn't be fair. On the bright side, you are free to use non-canon character names for romantic attachments. - Can I edit the age of a canon character?
All canon characters have been given ages, though not specific birthdays (up to the rper to choose those). If the proposed age you want the character to be is close to the current age given and doesn't conflict with the sibling ages in the family, then yes, you may change the age. Before doing so, please speak with an Admin.
- My character is not listed as having magic, but can I give my character a magic ability anyway?
No. The ability to harness and control magic is available to the characters that have it listed in the canon information you need to know regarding them. Not all of the families residing in Sleepy Hollow have connections to magic. Magic is not widespread anymore, but something very sparse, therefore only a select few characters from those families with the history of magic in their blood have magical abilities. But if you character does not have magic, do not despair. Perfectly normal human beings can get by just fine themselves and sometimes, magic can be more of a burden than a gift.
- I just received a PM from an Admin that because the Horseman hasn't had a thread where he physically killed someone in a while that my minor character has to die...Do they really have to?
Yes and No. In order for the plot to run smoothly the Horseman does actually have to kill people, now of course we can say that so-and-so died and not do an actual thread, however if that keeps happening we will pick a Minor character at random to die and play it out in a thread for people to join and react to. That's the whole reason we created the Minor Characters, they were basically made to die at random moments. However we understand that you can grow attached to them and that's great! We also understand how hard it can be to kill a favorite character which is why you have another option.
Option One: Is the obvious one. Kill off the Minor Character.
Option Two: Pick another character of yours to take their place. It can be a Major or Minor Character.
