The Rules
- RESPECT. We want to ensure that Sleepy Hollow is a friendly, welcoming environment, so please help us keep it this way! Our goal has been to create a diverse setting, and we will not tolerate any form of out-of-character prejudice. Don't hesitate to contact the staff if you have a complaint or need help.
- RATING. Sleepy Hollow is rated L3S2V3 on the RPG Rating Scale. As such, we allow explicitly described foul language, violence, and some sexual content. Meaning Sexual content is permitted but explicit narration is not allowed. Rape, Incest, and Pedophilia are not allowed and if such content is posted you will be banned without warning.
AGE MINIMUM. All members must be at least 15 years of age. We do not allow members who will be turning fifteen within a week. If we find out any registered member has not reached their fifteenth birthday, they will be banned. All characters must be at least 19 years of age, no exceptions, anyone younger would have to be a Non-playable character until their nineteenth birthday.
CONTENT WARNINGS. Content warnings are used for content that is not just mature, but "above and beyond" what may be comfortable for most people to read. You MUST place a specific warning in the subject line with an M in front of it. Example: Deja Vu * Gary-Lou * [MT] For Mature torture. Another Example: I'm coming for you * Mary-Su * [MEGV] For Mature extremely graphic violence. Etc.
Torture or extremely graphic violence
Domestic violence
Child abuse
Self-harm and suicide - APPLICATIONS. Applications not finished within one week will be archived unless you ask for an extension a couple of days prior.
APPLICATION REVIEWS. We aim to review applications within 24-48 hours of completion; please do not ask staff to look at it if it has not been at least 48 hours.
If there is a problem with your application, you will receive a private message. - ADDITIONAL CHARACTERS. You are allowed only 5 characters maximum. You must have at least One Main Character and One Minor Character. If you have four main characters the last one must be a minor character and vise versa, otherwise your application will be denied. FAQ on our canon's can be found [here]
- MINOR CHARACTERS. We understand that people grow attached to certain characters and therefore do not want them to be killed. However it is essential to the plot that the Horseman actually kills people so we created the Minor Characters. These characters were created to basically die at random. Whenever the thread death count for the Horseman is low we will pick a Minor Character at random to kill. Because it is random you will be able to pick a date for them to die, where they die, how they die, and who witnesses said death. Because of this sacrifice we will also allow you to create one OC character to replace them should you want to. FAQ on our canon's can be found [here]
- ACTIVITY. First things first, we understand that everyone has different levels of activity and availability, and also that you may “cycle” through characters depending on threads and inspiration.
POSTING REQUIREMENTS. The posting cutoff for character deactivation is 4 weeks. A staff member should contact you before that four week mark, if no one does you, of course, will get a one week extension before we deactivate the character. Out of character posts (e.g. posting in shippers or chat threads) DO count! However, we will contact you if you never post in character. You are exempt if you leave an absence notice.
DEACTIVATION. If you disappear or neglect a character the staff reserves the right to decide their fate (I.E. Whether or not The Horseman takes their head). Inactive characters will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Canons may become adoptable if they are vital to plots. If you do NOT wish for part of your character (any feature invented by yourself and not originally aspect of the canon) to be used in the next incarnation, you must notify staff and family members. Sometimes past details are kept for continuity purposes so it is your responsibility to make your intentions clear. - POSTING. There is no word minimum for In Character posts, but we expect a basic grasp of writing mechanics.
- THREAD DATING. Date all of your in character threads with the day, month, and year. It may be more general if it takes place in the past.
- GRAPHICS. You MUST have an avatar that is exactly 245x245. And your signature, should you choose to have one, must bee 500x200
- OC WEEK. During OC week you are allowed to create your own original character however if you want them to be a witch/warlock you must get an OK from an Admin. Magic is all but forgotten in this world and many Witches/Warlock were killed along with their families during the witch trails and because of that magic is all but extinct. Even the covens located all over New York only have only a handful of members, barley reaching the double digits. Also if you are at your five character limit but wish to create an OC PM an Admin, if we believe you can handle 6+ characters (as in you are fairly active with all your other ones) we will generally give it the ok. You must finish the character application before the week is up.
- MAGIC. Because of the broadness of magic we have created a list of spells [here] to ensure there isn't a quick fix for all their problems. Your character is only allowed to use these spells, however if you have any spells that you would like us to add to the list please PM an Admin with the application [here] and we will review said application and either accept the spell or deny it.
